Updating Your Domain at GoDaddy to Point to TourVista’s Web Servers

For those clients that are managing their own domains, you’ll need to do some basic configuration to “point” your domain to TourVista’s web servers (where your new website will be hosted).

While a bit on the technical side, this is actually really easy to do. You’ll be updating what’s known as the A record, which tells the Internet the IP address where your website is to be found.

For domains registered at GoDaddy, see the video below and follow these simple steps:

  1. Login to your GoDaddy account
  2. Go to “My Domains” and click on your domain name
  3. Scroll down to Additional Settings and click “Manage DNS” link:
  4. Find the “A” record and look for the @ Host. It will have an IP address for the “Points to” value, like this 192.232.202.115. Click the pencil to edit this record:

Also, be sure you see CNAME record for “www” or the site won’t load at www.
  5. Edit the A record and change the IP address to the IP address we’ve provided you. Confirm the Seconds is 600:
  6. That’s it. Be sure to click the Save button.

Within a few minutes, your domain will now be pointed to TourVista’s web servers. We’ll take care of the rest!

Here’s a helpful video tutorial that shows you exactly how to make this change for domains registered at GoDaddy.
Updated June 2017: GoDaddy has changed their interface, but this video still shows you the basic concepts:

The process is very similar for other domain registrars. If you can’t figure it out, try getting in touch with your registrar’s support for help.
